Peaceful coexistence and conflict resolution are one of the unaccomplished tasks of the Nigerian state. Primarily, the imperative of building a culture of peace in Nigeria is the thrust of this paper. Hence, this paper examined how cultural diversity cum ethnic pluralism could be positively harnessed to promote peaceful coexistence, which will subsequently foster inclusive growth and sustainable development in Nigeria. Additionally, the paper identified and addressed the problems of cultural and ethnic pluralism in Nigeria to ensure unity within diversity for a strong, united, virile and democratic society in Nigeria. The main source of information is secondary data such as books, articles, newspapers and journals. The paper calls on all stakeholders in the education, tourism and mass communication industries to exploit the potentials Nigeria’s cultural values offer to promote the “Nigerian in us”. Among other suggestions, this paper recommended that massive cultural education should be embarked upon by relevant agencies, like the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), the Centre for Black and African Arts and

Abstract Social Studies is a social science that is geared towards
developing the individual for nation building, national
unity and integration. Research entails investigation and
it is aimed at improvement and development for the benefit
of humanity. Research is the most important tool for
advancing knowledge and relevant skills. There are few
things, if any at all, that man has complete knowledge
about in his environment. Even the knowledge already
gained continues to show new dimensions or ramifications.
The quest for expansion of knowledge and the intrinsic
desire of man to improve himself has led him into research
for more knowledge within and outside their domain.
Without advances in research, development and growth
will be at a standstill. Research is critical to the future and
development of any nation. Hence, this paper is aimed at
investigating the challenges of research in Social Studies
and advancing workable strategies of strengthen it. The
authors express optimism that quality research in Social
Studies will influence human capital development that will
in turn bring about improved output and productivity for
national development. To achieve these objectives, this study
adopted the method of content analysis of relevant existing
literature and materials to draw up conclusion based on
the researchers’ interest. Among others, the paper suggested
that there is need for the removal of unnecessary
administrative bottlenecks in accessing research funds
(especially the TETFUND) and the government should
establish and fund research training center with equipped
libraries and internet services, to ensure quality research
efforts among researchers.

Abstract The Covid-19 pandemic is affecting global economies. Some key sectors of the world’s
economy are already experiencing a slowdown because of it. Tourism, air transport,
education and the oil sectors are visibly impacted. Globalization, on the other hand, has
become an integral of human existence. No nation of the world no matter how economically
buoyant can live and grow in isolation. Covid-19 Pandemic and Globalization remains
challenges that will preoccupy emerging nations of the world that aspire to attain the status
of a developed nation. Drawing from the African experience and taking advantage of the
rich scholarship on globalization in Africa, this research examines the threats posed by
Covid-19 Pandemic and globalization on the continent’s socio-economic development.
More specifically, this paper gives an overview of how to resolve the crisis of Covid-19
Pandemic and globalization among African nations. The paper suggests that political
stability, constant power supply, laws to fight corruption, human capital development,
bilateral relation etc, are major factors that will catapult African nations to developed
nations in this inevitable globalized world. It concludes that if necessary, measures are not
put in place, Africa may be excluded in this era, and globalization of poverty rather than
prosperity will occur. In the light of the researcher’s findings, Covid-19 Pandemic is an
additional “invention” for socio-economic enslavement of the African people. To achieve
these objectives, this study adopts the method of content analysis of relevant existing
literature; materials, tables, and news reports to draw up conclusion based on the
researcher’s area of interest. Among other suggestions, this paper calls for international
cooperation and collaboration in constructive responses to Covid-19 and to save Africa’s
economies from imminent collapse.

Abstract The beauty and gains of democracy cannot be overemphasized.
In most advanced democracies of the world,
the “tree” of democracy keeps blossoming as the years
passes by. Unfortunately, the pace of democratic
development in Nigeria is rather a pitiable and pathetic
one. It is illogical and underscoring that since the birth
of the uninterrupted fourth republic on 29th May, 1999,
Nigeria’s situation has grown more pathetic and
unpalatable. The nation has negatively developed to a
position where figures are simply manufactured,
manipulated and announced as election results - despite
the huge amount of money sent on electoral processes.
These unpalatable trends necessitated this study. This
paper investigated the state or level of imperfections in
the practice of democracy in Nigerian polity and
Nigerians’ failure in promoting true democracy. More
broadly, it explores Social Studies education as a recipe
for saving Nigeria’s democracy from imminent collapse.
Finally, the paper proffered viable recommendations as
measures in addressing Nigeria’s democratic
backwardness, among others, it recommends that, since
illiteracy is a major threat to democratic development,
the government should ensure that basic and adult
education is free and compulsory - the essence is to
totally eradicate illiteracy. Additionally, it also
recommends government as a matter of urgency should
place proper motivation, incentives and regards, to
encourage teachers who are nation builders.

Abstract This paper discusses how Nigeria as a nation can achieve national
security through, not just education, but qualitative education.
National security has been described in this paper, as freedom from
or resilience against potential harm caused by others. For easy
comprehension and assimilation, the paper was strategically broken
down into six, (6) distinct sections, to wit; conceptualization of key
words, causes of insecurity in Nigeria, effects of insecurity in Nigeria,
role of education in checkmating insecurity, previous efforts by
governments to address insecurity issues and; conclusion and
recommendations. The paper was able to establish the fact that
quality education can reduce incidences of insecurity, even if not
totally eradicated. Education, this paper revealed is a major weapon
of progressive social change. The paper concludes that sound
education anchored on good educational policies and implementation
can reduce, to a manageable extent, insecurity in Nigeria. Therefore
some recommendations, such as declaring a state of emergency in the
educational sector to reduce illiteracy, were proffered. This, the
paper suggested, among others will provide a panacea for the
problem of insecurity in Nigeria.

Abstract Obviously, the military is essentially an institution saddled with the responsibility of protecting the territorial integrity of a nation. The military was not established for political governance. However, the crises-ridden political atmosphere in Nigeria gave rise to the January 15, 1966 coup that terminated Nigeria‘s first republic. This paper appraises the contributions of Murtala-Obasanjo military regime towards nation building in Nigeria. It discusses the concepts of military government and nation building. Nation building is one of the un-accomplished desires in Nigeria, mainly because of numerous challenges. These challenges are extensively discussed for better comprehension of this paper. The paper ended with contributions of the military government (Murtala-Obasanjo regime) towards nation building in Nigeria.
